Ward Update: Parcel Theft in Flats & Estates We’ve seen a rise in parcel thefts from communal entrances, hallways and stairwells on the ward, with offenders gaining access through unsecured doors or tailgating residents. Your Safer Neighbourhood Team is increasing patrols and working with housing providers, but you as residents can also play a key role in preventing this type of crime. Keeping your building secure Do not let unknown people into the building, even if they say they are delivery driversAlways ensure communal doors close properly behind youNever prop open entry doors for convenienceReport broken intercoms, locks or entry systems immediately to the Royal Borough of Greenwich Council, or Housing association/landlord Safer parcel delivery Use click & collect, parcel lockers or local pickup shops where possibleArrange delivery to a trusted neighbour or your workplaceAdd clear delivery instructions: “Do not leave in communal area”Try to be home for deliveries or use tracked time slotsLook out for suspicious behaviour People loitering near entrances or checking door buzzersIndividuals following residents inside without a key/fobSomeone searching for parcels in hallways or mail areasReport suspicious activity via 101 (or 999 in an emergency)Report broken entry systemsWatch for suspicious behaviourLook out for your neighbours Small actions, especially keeping doors secure and managing deliveries properly make the biggest difference in stopping offenders targeting blocks of flats.
